Where to get accommodation in MaltaThe European University is one of the most frequent concerns of students who decide to begin their studies on one of the most paradisiacal islands on the European continent.
Malta is an archipelago with a population of over 500,000 inhabitants. The country has four islands, Malta, the largest of which is where the country's economic activity is concentrated.
Gozo, the second largest, very touristy mainly in summer. And the uninhabited ones, Comino, where the most famous crystal clear natural swimming pools are located, and Flifla, a nature reserve with restricted access.
Malta and Gozo are the places where you should look for accommodation, however, it would be advisable to live on the same island where you are studying. Although the two islands are connected by a ferry with trips every 30 minutes, the distances and times are not convenient if you are looking to make the most of your 100% experience.
When you plan your trip with Boom Studies, you have all the advice and guidance before your trip, during your stay in Malta and even when you finish your studies. Contact us for detailed information about our accommodation options in Malta.

ToggleAccommodation in Malta for the first few days
If you have only booked your course for the moment and want to check the accommodation options in Malta once you arrive on the island, it is important that you have a reservation for the first 7 or 10 days, while you choose your accommodation.
It is recommended that the accommodation you look for during the first days is very close to the place where you are going to study. This will make it easier for you to get to the school where you will be studying and for you to adapt during the first few days.
The most common types of temporary accommodation in Malta for students are the accommodations offered by schools, hostels, hotels and Airbnb's. The country is a tourist destination with a great offer for different audiences and profiles.

These platforms offer accommodation depending on the area, price and type of room. Hostels offer you a very economical option if you opt for shared rooms, i.e. rooms with several beds or cabins. This is very common for travellers in Europe.

It is important to note that having an accommodation contract in Malta for the full duration of your studies is essential in order to be able to apply for a student visa. Contracts are usually made for a minimum of 6 months and must be registered by the tenants with the Housing Authority, which is the entity responsible for regulating these contracts.
Where to book accommodation in Malta for the full duration of your studies?
The approximate time it will take you as a student to find accommodation in Malta varies depending on the season in which you arrive on the island. It is usually between 5 and 10 days, being much easier in winter, when there are fewer tourists and the demand for accommodation on the island is low.
For accommodation in Malta for 6 months or more, it is recommended that you rent directly from a local tenant or an agency that deals with "Real State", a term that refers to the leasing and sale of real estate.
If you want to find your accommodation in Malta with a local tenant you can do so through Facebook groups such as 'Rent a room in Malta' and 'Share a Flat in Malta'. If you don't feel comfortable doing it in English, you can also ask in Spanish-speaking groups such as 'Todo sobre Malta'.
If, on the other hand, you want an agency to carry out the search for you, you can contact some of the larger agencies such as Quicklets, Dalhia Real State or Remax.
What is the cost of accommodation in Malta for the full time of your studies?
The cheapest way to rent a room or flat is to rent directly from the tenant, as you will not have to pay the agency's commission for finding a flat.
Generally, landlords will always ask for your passport and the equivalent of one month's rent as a deposit, plus the first month's rent in advance. So if the rent for your room is €400 you will have to pay €400 deposit and €400 first month's rent, €800 in total.
When you do this process through an agency, the commission is 50% +18% (VAT), this means that in addition to the €800 for the room you will have to pay the agency €200 + 36 (tax), €1,000 in total.
The following are average prices for accommodation in Malta:
- Shared room: €250 - €300.
- Private room: €320 - €450
- Studio apartment:€500-€600.
- One-bedroom flat: €650 - €700
- Two-bedroom flat: €800 - 900
- Three-bedroom flat: €1,000 - €1,200
Finally, when negotiating, we advise you to ask if the bills (electricity, water and internet) are included. If they are not, you will have to add €50 per person to your monthly budget. Remember that at Boom Studies we can help you with this and much more.
